CIBORIUM + ASHERAH + KYPROS

CIBORIUM/KIBORION: Sanctum Santorum, the veritable Temple Of The Living God. "The Holy of Holies, or inner sanctuary.
kyprogenesis.com my blog as a whole I created to help me accumulate the necessary information to demonstrate as true fact, my intuision, that the abjad tri-literal kpr/xpr/gbr/gvr/gfr/cfr, was one of the earliest linguistically formulated, logos/verb/word that represents the ontological idea/concept of 'being' as in eternally becoming. I posit that KPR, Kypri and Kypria the Alum used to dye wool in the ancient world gave its name to Cyprus, it was not copper but the copper and iron sulfides which to the ancient alchemists, the Kabir of Hephaistos processed naturally in the Cypriot terrain where the winters are wet and the summers hot and dry. This which the Egyptians called Aseby also gave its name to Cyprus.
That said the word, a tri-literal more importantly also expresses on the metaphysical level the natural process of becoming, Earth air fire and water being the elements at play in the process or the meaning of the word Cyprus could be said to be the hypo-stasis, which in PHILOSOPHY is the underlying reality or substance, as opposed to attributes or to that which lacks substance or the ground zero, or the abode of the "governing" principal of, or the spark of life eternal.
We read in every dictionary that in Architecture, a Ciborium refers to a freestanding circular 'canopy' fixed by four columns or supported by four pillars of a perfect square, over an altar. In architecture generally and in some churches, a ciborium describes the four sided shrine with a dome or canopy over it. It is like the covering over the sanctuary in a basilica, supported by four columns. Ciborium is said of a sacred altar supported on columns, especially when freestanding and disconnected from any enclosing wall out in the open in the middle of say an open sacred space even a sacred grove.
The 11cm tall Bronze Stand in images above - which today sits inconspicuously in the British Museum, S. Cassons and R.D. Barnett, are the only pair that throw some light on - not much - than any other authority. This “Bronze Stand” as its been labeled, I will refer to as a Ciborium and hope after reading this blog you will be convinced and call it the same. CYPRIS an alternative.
This Ciborium is an ancient Cypriot artifact, it is described as an enigmatic work of art and its dated to around 1375 B.C. It comes from the site of Kurion in southern Cyprus. It is said to be similar to Mycenaean examples of a later date yet it is very different to anything I would tag Mycenaean, for it is unique in every aspect.
Cassons writes, “The four panels decorated with figure scenes a jour, are in a style which it is hard to classify.” Also due to the fact that the stand is only 11cm tall and slightly pitted with the wear and tear of time, there is some disagreement regarding two of the offerings being made by the 'devotees' to what appears to be a design of a symbolic 'tree' which is obviously the central object of attention within the Ciborium. R. D. Barnett, having studied the stand in 1935 disagrees with Cassons, commenting, in his book Iraq, p. 209 that he sees “a man bearing two napkins of enormous length”. where as Cassons states that its “a man holding two ivory tusks and again as I see it Cassons gets it wrong on the opposite panel where he thinks the man is offering fish where as Barrnet sees a man bringing skins of wine”. I see it as wheeled pottery, possibly gypsum/alabaster.
The remaining two panels as you can observe in the photos above are obvious and show a man bringing a copper oxide ingot in one and in the final panel a seated man, facing the stylized tree, (a "totem") that looks very much like a stylized tree, a tree that represents meaning of life? a tree made up of 'six" spiraled branches, the tallest two united on the vertical, the other four interconnected/united to the central pair.
It is worth observing the fact that the seated person playing the Harp (uniting the heavens with the earth) is observing the "tree " from the opposite direction to the ones who have obviously come to make their offerings/sacrifice. The man with the ten string Angle Harp, appears to have his mouth open giving the impression he is singing and playing at the same time, in praise of the stylized obviously Sacred Tree, obviusly a larger than life Tree of life. Empethising with the idea of the union between the canopy of the rotating Heaven with the fixed Earth, ( notice the Cibarion, the Stand itself is a Cylinder in motion resting on a four pillar Cube fixed base within which the characters are placed). King David with his harp/Kinar, 400 years later than this late bronze age was made was also attempting to keep heaven and earth together.
A look at the word and use of Totem: In kinship descent or ideology, when or if the apical ancestor of a clan is nonhuman, say an idea, it is called a totem and often accompanied by a totemic myth. The totem is usually an animal or other naturalistic figure that spiritually represents a group of related people such as a clan or a guild. Evans-Pritchard argued that the reason for totems was metaphoric. His work led him to believe that totems are a symbolic representation of the group. Lévi-Strauss agreed with this explanation. The Tau, the letter T, is one of the most archaic graphic representations of the power of a metaphoric/conceptual totems. Without distracting from our theme, I would like to suggest that the word totem probably originates from "TAU-THEMA". The Tau/Tav [T] Theme which lends itself to the stylized Tree within the Ciborium.
Moving back from the idea of our totem pole to our stylized Tree above, central in the Ciborium, we can say that it is a ceremonial or ritual object, obviously symbolic serving a 'sacred' purpose. The power obviously comes from the fact that it represents an axiom, a logical rational metaphysical and metaphoric representation of an idea, that can be said to be a (TRUTH) a prime, a cause that creates, a creator, the creator, a generator, a focus to help creat a desired effect, a mind set.. Most symbolic objects that have been carried forward in time, are closely associated with the divine or said to be sacred, usually a symbol of the generative power/powers. In most cases a power from above, Heaven.
They are hyped in some cases to be considered as it were, an actual manifestation of the deity, resulting in idolatry. For me they are simply a collection of symbols, or symbolic objects, natural or man made, designed to numerically, graphically, architecturally, chemically or phonetically, through the senses, primarily of sight/light/, illuminate the inner light, so to speak, to project to the mind, or represent, the manifestation, the mysterious elusive eternal life force, the essence of existences in time.
The above "Ciborium" a "cube superimposed by a cylinder," within which stands the TREE is an obvious symbol of unity, (it appears the unity is of the six + one = Seven). "Asherah Pole", The "Stylized Tree" seen in each of the four panels is obviously a totem representing a tree, the original natural symbol of life, the life force under the alter within the Ciborium..
The word Ciborium from Medieval Latin comes through the Greek (kibôrion). An Architectural Ciborium is said to represents an alter that holds the seed or the “seed-vessel”, as in the 'seed' that holds the "spark" or essence of existence.
Breaking up the word CIBARIUM/KIBORION/KIBAR/GIBOR/CYPRI: The earliest reference of the tri-literal GBR/KPR is the word gibar/gipar/ kipar in Sumerian. It appears certain that, at Uruk, - (starting about 4000 B.C.) - the High Priest 'Governor,' who was referred to as the EN, - (as in the eNth, the Ninth in the hierarchy?) - the chosen male, spent at least one ritual night with the High Priestess in the the gipar/ kipar, the high-priestly sacred residence, which resembled a FOUR POSTER BED WITH A CONOPY. Here in this four poster is where the 'Arche' actively demonstrated the first cause. Here is a womb/tomb, designed as a four poster with a circular canopy, similar to the above CIBORIUM, where heaven was represented as the cylinder, the flow and the earth as a cube, as a four poster, as the fixed. Their union, obviously represented the creative act, within a space that represented the UNION OF HEAVEN AND EARTH, the Greeks called the HeirosGamos. Symbolically the 'Arche' represented a new beginning within creation, genesis between the complementary/contradictory opposites.
The GIBAR/KIPAR represented the hypostasis, the housing, the container, the Architects Ciborium, the sacred housing where the 'ARCHE', participated ritually in the creative act, the process, continuation of of gods work, creation on earth was ceremonially acted out, the sexual act performed for all to witness.
At this ritual, the eN copulated with and consummated the marriage with Inanna (Steinkeller 1999:132). Inanna the feminine principal of the Heavenly Queen, had incarnated into a priestess. The likeliest candidate would have been the priestess known as nin-dingir, Sumerian for The Lady, "Lady Deity" or "Lady Who Is Goddess." A man could achieve authority in Inanna's temple community at Uruk as either her "trusted servant" or her consort or both. Indeed, traditionally, the ruler of Uruk and its goddess co-habited in the gipar/Ciborium.
The "Sacred Marriage," which at first conferred authority temporarily on one man, provided the religious sanction for male exercise of power. A king of Sumer could take part only if he held the office of eN of Uruk and bore the title "spouse of Inanna" (Steinkeller 1999:130-131). We know that around 2000 BCE, the monarch of Sumer was represented by "Dumuzi" in the rite. In return, he received the authority to manipulate "the natural and human environments for greater productivity and security of the whole.
Tamasos named after him in Cyprus Damuzi in Uruk.
The Mesopotamians clearly understood Inanna to be closely connected with fecundity and fertility. The "Sacred Marriage" ritual was also central to an early Urukian harvest festival. The agricultural Sumerians metaphorically equated plowing of land with sexual intercourse (Jacobsen 1976:46).
In Greek mythology, Lotis was a nymph, daughter of Poseidon or Nereus. Priapus tried to rape her and she was changed into a lotus plant to escape him. The term Nymph a derivative of “Nymphaea” was used to designate a young women, or potential virgin bride, right for marriage. This tradition of a Holy Union was again consummated in the cubical chamber with a circular cover, exactly the design of our "stand' or Ciborium above, a four poster bed originally was substituted, or much later represented by an oracular temple. This was the part of an ordinary house or home consecrated to the dwelling of the wife/mistress, as the sacred place.
Like mount Aragast the KPR, KIBORION was GROUND ZERO. This tri-literal WORD/VERB, GBR/KPR LIKE the KhePR I posit defines the house of 'god' where the most relevant truth, that nothing exists but for the union of the opposites, where unity of duality is the first cause of existence origins and eternal life. The 'HeirosGamos' the Ar again of the 'Arche' the Holy Union as the most sacred.
It seems wherever we go in time and place. The GBR/KPR holds its place and original meaning and power without substitution in all cultures through time.
Speaking of the 'seed' brings the lotus of the Hindus and the Egyptians for whom it was the symbol that represented the emerging transcendence of the deity from the midst of the primeval slime through the waters into the light. In other words the concept we know as the process/transformations, ultimately a proof positive of the meaning of life, of all existence, of resurrection. The seed-vessel called Nu-ciferine was identified as having been the original container of the Sacred Lotus, representing the sacred spark of the sun,
The Egyptias had exactly the same concept, the same meaning was given to the Egyptian scarab, called kheper, (kpr) again the tri-literal logos/word/symbol that represented the process of transformation, transmutation, ontology - (the being, the becoming of the becoming of the becoming) - the life cycle, the eternal life force. The Egyptian word was Kheper, given to the dung beetle, both Ciferin and Kheper were solar deities. The lotus was said to have arisen from the waters, the bud, floated on the surface, and slowly opened its petals only to reveal itself in full splendor, as did the dung beetle, after spending six months of the year under water. Both were earth born and self created. Khepri, represented the sacred spark of the sun, and as an aspect of Ra like the Lotus also represented the cycles of the sun. Dawn to Dusk and beyond in the underworld eternal. Thus the process, the meaning of the giver of eternal Life, Life for Ever.
Sacred constructions of all Holy of Holies are designed to show the 'Arche', the original Greek meaning of life. The idea, the question answered, that generation is unity of purpose, sacred. This idea of 'Arche' can be shown in anything living, a lotus, a tree, a tomb or the womb, they are all taken as the “most holy place”, the “Sanctum Santorum”, the veritable Temple Of The Living God. "The Holy of Holies, or inner sanctuary. The Ark/Arche/or Chest/Boat of Noah.
In Solomon's Temple, the inner sanctum was deemed to represent the womb of Ashtoreth, also called the Asherah, (as in Asherah Pole). Mentioned several times in the Old Testament, the Ashtoreth was openly worshiped by the Israelite's until the 6th century BC. As the Lady Asherah of the sea, she was the supernal wife of El, who was the supreme male deity, and they were together the 'Divine Couple'. The symbol of the womb or the water-lily or the Pole or Asherah Tree in the Grove are, I believe, alluding to the same idea as we gleaned from the stylized tree centered in the Ciborium above.
A four poster square housing structure which represents the consecration of the four cardinals, the AXIS-MUNDI, the altar the “fixed earth” the Khe/Ky, which is covered by a circular/cylindrical, a canopy, representing the cyclical, flowing heavens, the path of all the planets sun and moon. , the B.R. or if you like the AZ, or ALFA OMEGA.
BR/PR can be said to be the BaR, the cycle of life as in a PeRi-meter, the snake devouring its tail, the Ouro-BoRo. It represents the origin of our idea of first and last, the AlfaOmega or A to Z, this was defined by the circular canopy, that represented the sky, the above, the havens, the spirit world, the path or cycles of life, the process, the flow, time, eternal life. The B, representing the break through, the beginning and the R, the flow, to the end, which was/is a new beginning.
"Paten" is the name for a container for the “host” like a small plate or a basin. It is used today for consecration in Eastern Churches. In accordance with ancient custom, the “Sacrament” is suspended from the altar canopy. The Paten is reminiscent of the dish the Scarab is rising from, or for that matter the BaRGE the Pharaoh is standing in.
The description of a Ciborium as a WOMB or a TOMB or a CUBE as in an ALTAR, is where the most sacred symbol of ORIGINS/ARCHE reside. As far as I can deduce, the word Ciborium is an exact description of the Cypriot “Bronze Stand” and the meaning behind the word CYPRUS
There are no ancient symbols, without a deep and philosophical meaning attached to them confirms Blavatsky. The LOTUS she explaines, represents the abstract, and the Concrete Universes. It was held sacred from the remotest antiquity by the Aryan Hindus, the Egyptians, and the Buddhists after them. The lotus was revered in China and Japan, and adopted as a Christian emblem by the Greek and Latin Churches, who made of it a messenger of god. Speaking of messengers the Archangel Gabriel" is also at root a (GBR). In fact he is said to be the GBR of El.
The underlying idea behind this symbol is very elegant; it shows its identical parentage in all the religious systems, it signifies one and the same philosophical idea. In Grammar the Three aspects of the One, the Three in One. As a verb,- (Latin for a word,)- it is defined as "the emanation of the objective from the subjective through the copula." The GBR is an Ideation passing from the intuitively observed invisible form, the subjective, into the abstract, the copula, then fixed again into the concrete or visible sound or form, the objective.
Nelumbo nu-cifera,“the sacred bean of India” I cant leave out the old saying that the seed of the sacred Indian lotus is good to eat and that this was probably the untouchable of Pythagoras. The bean ability to alter reality when ingested.
Hindus associate the lotus with “creation mythology” and with the gods Vishnu, Brahma, and the goddesses Lakshmi and Sarasvati, - (Lakshmi isassociated with Kypris/Aphrodite).
From ancient times the lotus has been a divine creation symbol in Hindu tradition. Brahma and Lakshmi, both divinities of "potency," have the lotus symbol associated with them.
The flowering of the lotus also represents supreme spiritual awareness or the super conscious state from the 'three' levels of human spiritual existence, named ignorance, longing then illumination. The seed contains a preservative enzyme and is impervious to water which has been found to potentate its viability for centuries. Like the eternal flame.
Nelumbo nu-cifera, also known as Indian lotus, sacred lotus, bean of India, Egyptian bean or simply lotus.
Interestingly the Blue Lotus Seeds (Nelumbo Nu-ciferine) can germinate every 500 years after they are shed. The seed like the Cypriot KY symbol is said to be (the first cause) It is assumed by some, that the word Ciborium refers to the shape of the Lotus and others as the Eucharistic receptacle or the seed and others to the housing.
Like the Tabernacle, according to modern liturgical usage the word Ciborium now denotes the sacred vessel and not the original architectural housing structure which goes under the name of Architectural Ciborium.
The shape of a contemporary Ciborium container, can resemble a Chalice, it is more globular and its cover it is surmounted by a cross.
In Hindi the seed or the essence of the lotus is called (Kamal or Gamel or the letter G as seen or on the masonic ALTAR/CIBORIUM .
This alternating gutteral phoneme or letter G/K/X dovetails beautifully with my central theme that the Gi/Ki/Xi however written represented the potency, the energy, life, or if you like the common denominator of existence, of life, I like the sound of "spark of life".
Back to KYPRI and the symbol on the stand the ASHERA or the TREE OF LIFE KNOWLEDGE.
The IX monogram or XI monogram is a type of early Christian monogram looking like the spokes of a wheel, sometimes within a circle. The IX monogram is formed by the combination of the letter "I" or Iota for Iesous which before the Greek change to Iota, the phoneme was represented by the Y, and "X" or Chi was for Christos. The spokes often stand-alone, without the circle.
